September 20, 2012 Regular Meeting Agenda Item #5 Item Title C-4 Settlement of Personal Injury Claim of Nyika Mendez Issue/Rationale On February 18, 2012, Nyika Mendez was the driver of a motor vehicle which was struck by a school bus owned by the School Board of Clay County and which was being driven by an employee of the school board.  The motor vehicle was totally demolished.  As a result she suffered injuries which were permanent in nature and which required extensive medical treatment.  Medical bills exceeded $25,000 of which there are over $5,800 remaining unpaid.  Settlement was reached at mediation by consensus between Board Chairman Carol Studdard, Dr. George Copeland and Bruce Bickner.  Total settlement for all claims is $20,000.00.
